Yankees going strong for over a century

The New York Yankees are the world champions of baseball once again, after defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in a six game series Wednesday. This is the franchise’s 27th World Series title and their first since the year 2000. The New York Yankees baseball franchise is arguably one of the most renowned organizations in all of sports.

Beginning in 1903 when it was known as the New York Highlanders, the franchise has seen 44 Hall of Famers come and go. These include the likes of Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, and Reggie Jackson. It has also witnessed the very entertaining days of the George Steinbrenner ownership era, and the great managers in Billy Martin and Joe Torre.

But their popularity is global in many ways other than sports. Their famous blue-and-white-insignia-bearing hats are a classic and a never outdated trend in headgear. YES Network, a network that was created for Yankee baseball fans, also began broadcasting the New Jersey Nets game during basketball season. Future Hall of Fame shortstop Derek Jeter has endorsement deals with Nike, Gatorade, Gillette Fusion, and is one of only three athletes to have his own Jordan brand signature shoe. Not to mention the multiple television appearances he’s made over the years.

And the Yankee fan base is endless. Their support runs a lot deeper than the New York Metro Area. The Yankees have topped the home-attendance list for 83 of 87 years.

The most coveted rivalry in the history of sports also belongs to the Yankees with the Red Sox. The Yankees organization plays an essential part in the molding of America’s favorite pastime. And so the tradition continues...
